Chocolate HarbourBristol, UK Although nowadays people often tend to associate the best quality eating chocolate with Belgian and Swiss brands, solid eating chocolate was in fact a British innovation that was invented in Bristol. Until the mid-Victorian period, chocolate was exclusively taken as a drink; and then in 1847, , the first solid chocolate bar was invented by J Fry and sold in Bristol. The company he founded, Fry and Sons, had a strong association with Bristol and the surrounding area, with a factory originally located in the city centre, then moving to a manufacturing base in nearby Keynsham in the early twentieth century. Fry & Sons was ultimately purchased by Cadbury Trebor, but the factory at Keynsham has been earmarked for closure, with the removal of its activities to Bournville and a factory in Poland. There is now an aspiration to create a visitor attraction in the historic harbour area of Bristol that will tell the story of chocolate’s association with the city and provide an all-round, high-quality experience that will incorporate a variety of other elements. Thus Chocolate Harbour was born. Chocolate Harbour will be located on the harbour front in Bristol and will comprise chocolate themed restaurant, shop, cottage manufacture and a chocolate interactive experience / visitor centre. Set up as a trust, profits will be applied to educational projects in Ghana, where much of the original raw materials came from. Development Solutions is delighted to be involved as an adviser on this exciting project. “I have found your support and involvement over the past two years invaluable, and hope that I will be able to turn to you for continued guidance as we enter this critical period.” Laurence Trackman, Founder, Chocolate Harbour Sectors City & Town Centres Retail Leisure Tourism Hospitality Services Conceptual vision Strategic positioning Real estate market analysis Lease acquisition Investment advice [Return] |
