Kingsmead FordBath, UK When Kingsmead Motors needed to relocate to allow the redevelopment of their former site as a leisure complex (Kingsmead Leisure) the first choice location was on Bath’s Lower Bristol Road, an established motor trade “circuit”. In the absence of any available and suitable sites for development, attention turned to existing buildings and a suitable site was identified across the four storey Redbridge House that had been vacated by the Government and the adjoining Stothert & Pitt offices. Purchase of both buildings was negotiated in a deal funded by the developer of the leisure scheme. Stothert & Pitt scaled down their operations into the first floor of their building leaving the whole of the ground floor available for conversion to showroom, workshops and body shop. Redbridge House became showroom and parts store / sales, with the upper parts initial securing consent for student accommodation, but ultimately being retained as offices, refurbished as a serviced office complex. Land at the rear was acquired for additional parking and car storage, and the whole project was completed on time to enable a smooth move to the new premises, leaving the former buildings vacant and ready for the redevelopment to commence.
